An unusual archaeological dig is taking place near the Fortress of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia.Anthropology students from the University of New Brunswick are removing the remains from approximately 1,000 coastal graves dating back to the 18th century before they wash into the Atlantic Ocean.He was charged in December 2015 after a former student at the Kings County school where he once taught accused him of plying him with alcohol and having forced oral sex with him at Hawkes’ home.

The charges are what was in the Criminal Code at the time of the alleged offences.

Gaudet said the woman had recently started to open up to others about what happened.

People she talked to encouraged the woman to go to police, which she did earlier this year, Gaudet said.

Fisher is due to appear in Halifax provincial court on July 25.

“And she will continue to live with it, probably for the rest of her life.” Gaudet said more people are coming forward with allegations of sex crimes dating back decades, and she thinks people may be able to ignore the perceived stigma that was more prevalent 40 and 50 years ago.

“I think that it’s also more education and awareness around this that it is wrong and there are ways to get help,” she said.

The woman was under the age of six at the time of the first alleged assault.

Gaudet said the allegations include many incidents in various locations in Kings County.

Gaudet said it’s unfortunate that people who are sexually assaulted often have to live with the memories for a long time before they feel they are able to come forward.
